Friday Favorites 8/15/14

Phew! Another busy week for me! It's my second week training at a hospital where I'll be working one day a week. Between that, jury duty on Monday, client work, blogging AND the hubs being out of town, I've been desperately trying to extend the day to 36 hours. It's not working. Luckily, this weekend I have the best plans of all - find a body of water and do nothing. Other than teaching one class, I'll have plenty of free time to relax, fit in some yoga and stock up on farmer's market goodies.

So, here it is! My weekly roundup of favorite links from around the web. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments below. For more, hang out with me on twitter and facebook!

The Ultimate Detox Salad (The Roasted Root) --> This salad is packed with literally everything that is nutritious and delicious. I think I'm going to try this with my favorite lemon-tahini dressing
Savory Rye Crepes with Peaches and Blue Cheese (Naturally Ella) --> I may be a Georgia girl, but South Carolina peaches are everything right now. Normally, I'm not into the whole savory fruit thing, but these crepes look to die for.

Tart Cherry Compote with Warm Brie (Chocolate & Carrots) --> Have I mentioned how much I love brie? Oh yeah, I just dedicated a whole blog post to it a few weeks back. I would be more than happy to tear into this with a fresh baguette (or a serving spoon).

Sweet Cinnamon Grilled Plantains (Edible Perspective) --> Our recent trip to Costa Rica reignited by love of plantains. These look so simple and delicious!
Grilled Corn with Harissa and Feta (A Couple Cooks) --> OMG.

Baked Eggs on Roasted Cherry Tomatoes (Cookie & Kate) --> My simple dinnertime solution - throw an egg on it. Serve this with some whole grain toast and you've got yourself a meal.

Five Simple Changes For A Healthier Diet (The Lean Green Bean) --> Somehow, Lindsay has managed to fit  90% of the nutrition advice I give into five simple steps.
Eating Gluten Free On A Budget (The Pretty Bee) --> Great tips for my celiac, IBS and gluten intolerant friends!
8 Scientific Reasons Vegan Men Are More Manly (The One Ingredient Chef) --> I literally LOL'ed reading this article. I've never quite understood men's attachment to meat. I can completely understand not being ready to give up animal foods entirely, but I've worked with so many men who absolutely love certain vegan and vegetarian dishes, yet shirk at the idea of giving up meat even just a few days of the week. Get with it guys, real men eat kale!
Probiotics as Skin Care (Yahoo) --> Making a tumeric and yogurt facial tonight. Will report back.
How To Find Your Life Purpose (Zen Habits) --> People often ask me how I decided to become a dietitian. Honestly, my career path was a happy accident, something that started as a job and grew into my passion with time. After reading this article, I realized this only began to happen after I stepped outside of my personal bubble and the further I step out, the closer I've become to finding my life purpose.
Everything Changed When I Started Meditating Everyday (Huffington Post) --> I can't stress enough how important meditation is for physical and mental health and wellness. Like this author, I often wonder what my high school, college and early twenties would be like if I started mindfulness meditation and yoga earlier....

    1. You are so welcome! Luckily I was able to postpone it till December for work reasons - this week was a double homocide so I REALLY didn't want to get stuck on that case!
